The final, third stage of transforming the website into a clear, static archive has now been completed. As an archivist of Original War’s community history, the Original-War.net vortal has come a long way to preserve and organise the contributions of many years of community activity. For more than 20 years, you have collected a lot of knowledge, artwork, materials, and useful files on the website and forum. We, in turn, have kept our promise to preserve them continuously, so they would not share the fate of many sites that disappeared forever. The community has created many great things over the years, and our goal is to make sure they stay available as time goes by. For two decades, we also provided free hosting accounts for our users. Since most of them were no longer actively used, and the new way of presenting archived content required optimisation, we decided to discontinue this service. We also removed some active features and support for external services, so we can focus fully on our own project. We also made several improvements while organising the resources. A list of the latest changes is provided below:

  • The layout width has been increased to suit modern monitors.
  • The content and source code of most news posts and articles have been updated.
  • Selected sections have been refreshed, including the ClanBase archive, Statistics, and OW Media.
  • The galleries and the download section have been reorganised to improve clarity.
  • The remaining active systems have been removed: IRC logs, the IRC bot, the Discord bot, and the dedicated OW servers.
  • The free hosting system for users has been permanently shut down.
  • Minor issues have been fixed and unnecessary files have been removed to reduce the server load.
  • The session responsible for remembering the site’s language has been extended, so you no longer need to worry about it expiring while browsing.
  • The anti‑bot protection systems have been updated.

The archiving process has been completed, but this is not the end of the changes we are preparing for you. A big day is coming very soon!

More than two decades in the digital world is quite a long time - spanning several generations of internet users, during which the Internet has undergone profound transformation. Traditional forums, once the backbone of global online communities, have given way to social media, and even these platforms are now losing users due to the rise of so‑called “artificial intelligence”. Technology is reshaping not only the tools themselves but also consumer habits. The number of AI bots continues to grow, and digital infrastructure is increasingly targeted by DDoS attacks, a challenge experienced by all thematic portals in the form of overloaded servers. In response, for several years we have been undertaking decisive measures aimed at maintaining the availability and functionality of our services. At the same time, the scene itself - after more than twenty years - is undergoing a clear decline. The number of matches, discussions, and active clans is declining, while tournaments, matches under official rules, and ranked games are disappearing. In an reality where creating more accounts and waiting for replies has given way to instant access to information, we have chosen to move with the times. After analysing the benefits and the potential risks, we introduced a new model to safeguard what we consider our greatest asset: our extensive archive of content. For over a year, we have been carrying out a comprehensive modernisation programme - from implementing more effective anti‑bot protections, through migrating to a more efficient server, to gradually converting less frequently used dynamic elements of the site into more static forms. All these measures serve a single purpose: to ensure the durability and availability of our knowledge base. We preserve these resources not only with future modders or statisticians in mind, but also for ordinary players. Our aim is for this history - unlike so many websites that have vanished from the internet without a trace - to endure and remain accessible to future generations of the community. What has changed?

  • The forum’s key technical and informational sections have been archived in a static form, allowing new players to explore the realities of earlier years and continue benefiting from the knowledge accumulated there. At the same time, we have decided to permanently deactivate and remove the integrated forum - once an extension of our website - together with all associated user accounts.
  • The website’s dynamic components - including the ClanBase, the speedrun ranking, the Master Server list of unranked matches, and game statistics - have been converted into static archives.
  • Features requiring user authentication - including the ClanBase, the private messaging system, the user account system, and the profile preview view in ClanBase - have been permanently removed, along with all associated profiles and account‑verification mechanisms. Due to the declining number of players and the gradual abandonment of official gameplay rules, only 12 ranked matches were played over the course of more than a decade. The reduced interest in competitive play has resulted in newer versions of the game no longer supporting ClanBase integration, and because we have discontinued account verification on our server, older editions of the game will likewise no longer be able to make use of ClanBase.
  • We have updated the website header from “Original War Community” to “Original War Community Archive” to emphasise the site’s new archival character.

What remains unchanged?

  • We will continue to maintain the archive documenting the history of the Original War scene.
  • We continue to encourage you to follow the latest news regarding the game’s development.

In summary, we have completed the second of three stages in the redevelopment of the website. By transitioning to a static format - focused on the content that has attracted the greatest interest in recent years - we have discontinued the registration and user‑account system, which is no longer required under the new model. Through simplifying the site’s structure and strengthening its security measures, the website has become more resilient to DDoS attacks and large‑scale AI bot scanning, helping to reduce the risk of future service interruptions. What matters most, however, remains unchanged: the amount of available content continues to grow, and new materials and updates from the scene will still be published here. We also encourage you to follow our Facebook page. Additionally! Due to time constraints and reduced administrative availability, we have decided to suspend our activity on external platforms in order to focus fully on the development of our main services. I have already informed the administrators of our partner portals. My accounts on Discord, Steam and Speedrun.com will remain inactive (some of them removed), and Nefarem will now handle speedrun moderation. Thank you for being with us for the past two decades - it is a tremendous honour for us. The big day is fast approaching!

Obraz

Ostatnio na stronie pojawił się nowy artykuł zatytułowany “Podstawy Speedrunningu”.

Cytat:

Jakiś czas temu uruchomiliśmy ranking speedrunów z Original War, a dziś chciałbym przybliżyć Wam podstawy tej dziedziny w kontekście naszego ukochanego tytułu.

The Original-War.net Community has been with us for more than two decades, and many of its members have supported our small yet remarkably dedicated scene for even longer. Over the years, countless people have passed through the website, the forum, social media, and various community initiatives - to the point where, at one stage, it was jokingly said that half of the active scene consisted of our own team members. Beyond them, all our users have contributed enormously to the development not only of the community, but of the game itself.

In this way, an extensive database was created - one that serves not only future modders or game statisticians, but also everyday players. To ensure it does not share the fate of many sites that disappeared forever, we have chosen to continue hosting it on our server so that you can keep benefiting from it!

We are changing for you. Further information regarding the current changes can be found on the website: Original-War.net Data Archive.

Take a look at the data that has been archived. This is only one of several stages of the transformation, and further details regarding the redevelopment will be available soon!

The Vision Game website has just announced that it is making the second part of its documentary about the Altar studio available for free on its YouTube channel. This episode focuses on the “Original War” game. The film is in Czech, but it includes English subtitles.
